2. What's the difference between airline compensation and TripShed Protection Payout?
 

They are completely separate payments.
 

Airline Compensation (APPR):
 

  • Paid by the airline if your flight qualifies under the Canadian Air Passenger Protection Regulations (APPR).

  • Eligible passengers may receive up to CAD 1,000 per passenger for delayed, canceled, and missed connection claims (or up to CAD 2,400 for eligible denied boarding claims).
     

Instant TripShed Protection Payout:
 

  • Paid directly by TripShed, as an eligible membership benefit.

  • Available only to TripShed Protect (CAD 75 payout) and TripShed Protect+ (CAD 100 payout) members.

  • Paid instantly, you don't need to wait months for the airline to process your compensation claim.
     

We continue pursuing your airline compensation separately.

3. Can I purchase a TripShed Protection Plan after my flight has already been disrupted?
 

Yes.
 

You can purchase any TripShed Protection Plan at any time and we'll immediately begin preparing, submitting, and managing your airline compensation claim.​

However, Instant TripShed Protection Payouts for future travel are available only if your membership has been active for at least 48 hours before your flight's original scheduled departure time.

5. What travel disruptions are covered by the TripShed Protection Plan?
 

TripShed Protect and TripShed Protect+ members will receive an Instant TripShed Protection Payout for all travel disruptions, regardless of whether they were caused by weather, technical issues, crew shortages, operational disruptions, airport congestion, air traffic control restrictions, security incidents, aircraft rotation, or any other events.
 

Disruptions include:

Regardless of the reason for the disruption, we'll also prepare, submit, negotiate, and manage your airline compensation claim (up to CAD 1,000 per passenger under APPR, where eligible), along with any eligible out-of-pocket expense reimbursement claims for meals, accommodation, transportation, and other qualifying expenses.

6. Can I receive multiple TripShed Protection Payouts for the same trip?
 

No.
 

Only one Instant TripShed Protection Payout is payable per eligible trip.
 

For example, if your flight is delayed and your baggage is also delayed during the same journey, you'll receive one CAD 75 (Protect) or one CAD 100 (Protect+) payout.
 

This does not affect your airline compensation claim, which we'll continue pursuing in full up to CAD 1000 per person.

7. What happens if my claim is unsuccessful?
 

If we cannot recover airline compensation:
 

 

TripShed Starter Plan: 
 

 

If your airline compensation claim is ultimately unsuccessful, we'll issue CAD 34.99 in TripShed Credits, equal to your membership purchase price.
 

 

These credits:
 

 

  • Never expire

  • Can be used for any future TripShed claim

  • Can be used for yourself, family members, or friends

 

 

 

Simply email support@tripshed.com whenever you'd like to use your credits.
 

 

TripShed Protect & Protect+ Plan:
 

 

Your membership remains active until it expires (1 year from the date of purchase), allowing you to continue using your remaining future trip protection benefits (like TripShed Protection Payout of up to CAD 100 for up to the next 6 trips in the validity period, depending on your plan: TripShed Protect or TripShed Protect+).

Also, we don't simply close your file. We'll prepare a detailed evidence report using operational flight data, weather records, airport information, and other supporting evidence to challenge the airline's decision. We will escalate your case to the Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) for independent review until it's fully resolved.

8. When will I receive my Instant TripShed Protection Payout?
 

Eligible Instant TripShed Protection Payouts are processed much faster (within 7-10 business days) after your qualifying disruption has been verified.
 

Airline compensation claims continue separately until resolved.

9. What counts as one trip for the TripShed Protection Plan benefits?
 

For the purpose of TripShed Protection Payouts, a trip is defined as one one-way journey.
 

  • A one-way flight booking counts as one trip.

  • Connecting flights (even if there are two or more) under the same booking reference and forming part of the same one-way journey are considered one trip.

  • A return journey is treated as a separate trip, even if it was purchased under the same booking.
     

Example:
 

  • Toronto → Vancouver = 1 Trip

  • Toronto → Calgary → Vancouver (same booking reference) = 1 Trip

  • Toronto → Vancouver → Toronto (return booking) = 2 Trips (one outbound trip + one return trip)

​

This definition applies to TripShed Instant Protection Payouts and future trip protection under your selected membership plan.

10. How many passengers does one TripShed Protection Plan cover?
 

Every TripShed Protection Plan allows us to prepare, submit, negotiate, and manage airline compensation claims for up to 6 passengers travelling under the same booking reference, where eligible under the Canadian Air Passenger Protection Regulations (APPR). Each eligible passenger may qualify for up to CAD 1,000 (or up to CAD 2,400 for eligible denied boarding claims) from the airline.
 

However, TripShed Protection Benefits—including Instant TripShed Protection Payouts (CAD 75 or CAD 100), future trip protection, and other membership benefits—apply only to the lead passenger who purchased the TripShed Protection Plan.
 

If other passengers would also like to receive Instant TripShed Protection Payouts and future trip protection, each passenger must purchase their own TripShed Protect or TripShed Protect+ membership.
